crossbase realizes relaunch of the online catalog at Wöhner

Rödental 02/06/2015: With technical top-class performances in electrical engineering, the Wöhner group has been shaping the future of energy distribution and control energy for over 80 years. With 10 subsidiaries, a joint venture and an extensive network of representatives in Germany and abroad, expert contact persons are available on-site in almost 80 countries. At the start of the year, the CMS module from crossbase was used to relaunch the online catalog with a new, contemporary layout.

Central functions of the solution

Configuration of layout and PDF data sheet engine

The Wöhner online catalog uses the direct access to the mirrored PIM database, so that no interfaces are necessary. The customer-specific requirements for the product information to be displayed in the various selection and information pages in the form of attributes, image and text categories, downloads and product relationships can be flexibly configured on the basis of the existing data structures in the PIM. Extensive product information is displayed clearly arranged in categories, e.g. product photos, dimensional sketches, descriptive texts, texts for invitations to tender, approvals, electrical and mechanical characteristics, material properties, assembly instructions and CAD models.

In addition, all product information can be transferred to a PDF data sheet "product description" with one click and thus also be made available offline. For this purpose, an additional stylesheet is stored for the PDF output, which formats the layout and the contents accordingly.

Dynamic product selection and responsive layout

Using guided, dynamic selection lists or the full-text search or in an application-related context (tools), the user is able to filter the desired products in the online catalog range and select them in lists of results.

For the relaunch, not only did Wöhner want to improve the look but also the display and functionality on the various display devices currently available. The entire template structure and layout information was therefore produced with responsive technology to ensure optimum display on smartphones and tablets.

Dynamic configurator

The Tools area contains various wizards, which can be used to quickly and easily find products. Here it is possible to calculate the current-carrying capacity and short-circuit withstand of an item, for example. Such calculations are based on the dynamic search bar structure integrated in the PIM. Wöhner can flexibly modify the filters in the PIM system without programming. This is most useful when new items are being added to the range or navigation / branching in a wizard is changed / extended.
